Actually no one did! Brides have not always worn white. It may seem as if brides have been getting married in white forever, but, brides started wearing all white bridal gowns around the Victorian days. In the 1800's it was common for a bride to wear bold rich colors and very expensive fabrics depending on their social status. In those days white was not a symbol of purity, Blue was. Wearing a white bridal gown symbolized wealth. The trend started in 1840 when Queen Victoria married Prince Albert of Saxe wearing a white wedding gown. Since white was not normally the color of choice, people were surprised. Soon after, women all over Europe and America began wearing white. By the turn of the century white was the new color of choice. Todays bride can get married in any style or color they choose. As women, we have come a long way. We can now wear pants in public and hold any job. So, if white is not the color for you, why not step outside the Box and wear your favorite color. Just remember to find the dress first. Depending on the color and style of the dress, you may not want to wear a veil, less is always more elegant. Second, choose the location. You do not want the décor of the venue to clash with the color of your dress. Third, choose the color of the bridesmaid dresses to compliment your dress. Neutral colors like black, cream are light pastels will always work. Then build your dream wedding around you and your dress.
